Mission and Goals

Our Mission
The Forestry Scholarship Association will serve and support the students and student organizations of the College of Forestry and Conservation at The University of Montana through financial and non-financial contributions, student scholarships, mentorship, and advocacy.

Our Goals
The Forestry Scholarship Association will focus on benefitting students and their future.   We want students to gain valuable experiential lessons outside the classroom while succeeding in the classroom.  We will work with the faculty and administration of the College of Forestry and Conservation and The University of Montana to ensure that the needs of the students are met.  The FSA will strive to position itself to be the leading non-University advocate for College of Forestry and Conservation students in the natural resource management field.

Who we are
The Forestry Scholarship Association is an incorporated organization dedicated to students and student organizations of the College of Forestry and Conservation at The University of Montana.  Our membership includes College of Forestry and Conservation faculty, alumni, community members, and supporters around the world.  Our organizational structure consists of a Board of Directors as well as FSA Officers.  The Board of Directors is comprised of four Community Representatives, two Student Representatives, and one CFC Faculty Representative.  The Officer positions are President, President-elect, Secretary, and Treasurer.

Why is there a Forestry Scholarship Association?
The concept of a group of alumni and community members originally stemmed from a recognized need for additional planning for the 100th Foresters’ Ball.  Due to attention drawn to the Foresters’ Ball following the 95th Foresters’ Ball, it became evident that there was a need for that organization to develop sooner than anticipated and formalize its structure.  Through discussions with current students, faculty and alumni, it was evident that there was a need for an association to centralize resources and provide mentorship and advocacy for ALL students and student organizations within College of Forestry and Conservation.  The desire to serve and support led to the creation of the Forestry Scholarship Association.
