Definition of SCHOLARSHIP:
1: a grant-in-aid to a student (as by a college or foundation)

2: the character, qualities, activity, or attainments of a scholar

3: a fund of knowledge and learning <drawing on the scholarship of the ancients>

The Forestry Scholarship Association is dedicated to serving and supporting ALL students and student organizations of the W.A. Franke College of Forestry & Conservation (FCFC) at The University of Montana.  The goals of the FSA focus on benefiting students and their future.  Our support of students extends beyond the traditional definition of scholarship by including time, equipment, other non-monetary items, and mentorship, as well as student scholarships.   We want students to gain valuable experiential lessons outside the classroom while succeeding in their formal studies.  The FSA actively works with the students, faculty, and administration of the FCFC and The University of Montana to ensure that the needs of the students are met.

It is evident that a large number of individuals, organizations, businesses and industry professionals have a vested interest in the success of students and student organizations within the FCFC.  These supporters contribute and give generously to those organizations and students in a wide variety of ways.  The Forestry Scholarship Association therefore has a broad-base of membership consisting of School of Forestry and W.A. Franke College of Forestry & Conservation alumni, faculty, current students, community members, and other supporters.  The FSA is not an alumni association.  Additionally it has a more specific mission than an alumni association by creating a focal point for support of FCFC students and student organizations.
